Jul 7, 2022

Top 10 Best AMOLED Dark Mode Android Apps – 2022 Advertisement There are a ton of apps out there that support dark mode these days. That wasn’t always the case, though. Once AMOLED displays started taking over, and Google officially started supporting dark mode, all of that changed. Now, every popular app out there offers some iteration of a dark mode. Google opted to go with a dark gray dark mode, but many people still prefer AMOLED dark mode aka pitch black dark mode. Why? Well, because it saves most battery, it allows pixels to be turned off. That being said, in this article, we’ll talk about some of the best AMOLED dark mode apps for Android. Do note that these are only some of our most favorite apps that support such a dark mode. If an app doesn’t have a full black dark mode, it’s not eligible to be on this list. That actually disqualifies most of Google’s apps, but not all of them. This list is also quite versatile, as you’ll find various different apps here. Top 10 Best AMOLED Dark Mode Android Apps 2022 Below is a quick overview of the top 10 best AMOLED dark mode Android apps for 2022, including any download and in-app purchase costs. Advertisement Google Play rating: 4.2 out of 5 stars Twitter is one of the most popular social media apps out there, and the company has a really compelling Android app. One of the reasons why, is the fact it has two dark mode variants, in addition to light mode, of course. You can choose between a dark gray, and a proper AMOLED dark mode here. Twitter has a special name for that dark mode option, it’s called ‘Lights out’, while the regular mode is called ‘Dim’. Advertisement Twitter does allow you to set things to ‘automatic’, so that it adheres to your system setting. The thing is, even if you choose this option, it still allows you to choose your preference between two dark modes, which is neat. Twitter’s app is really good in general. You can even set the feed to be chronological, and the app will remember where you left off with scrolling. Not many social media apps offer a similar functionality. Google Play rating: 4.1 out of 5 stars Feedly is another compelling app that offers proper dark mode. That goes for both Feedly and Feedly Classic, regardless of which you choose. Both apps are set to light mode as default, but changing things to a dark mode is really easy. All you have to do is open up the left-side menu, and then scroll down until you see the ‘Switch theme’ option. That will change it from light to dark, and vice versa. Advertisement What is Feedly? Well, it’s essentially an RSS reader, and a really compelling one. In fact, Feedly is easily one of the best RSS readers out there. You can easily add your sources, and then have access to them via Feedly. Using this app feels kind of like reading a magazine with the latest news. The app is free to use, though do note that Feedly Classic is no longer getting updates. Google Play rating: 4.4 out of 5 stars Relay for reddit is one of the most popular, and best third-party reddit clients. This app does have an AMOLED dark mode, but that’s not all. You can also opt for two shades of dark gray here, one of which is called ‘Black’. On top of that, both ‘Pink’ and ‘Blue’ themes are also available, in addition to the white one, of course. So, you can really fine-tune the theme to suit your needs. That’s not everything you can fine-tune, though. Relay for reddit offers plenty of customization, so you can re-arrange things in the app, and make it look the way you want. Relay for reddit allows you to download content from reddit, and it has a ton of additional options in the settings. Let’s just say that Relay offers far more options than Reddit’s official application does. Google Play rating: 4.0 out of 5 stars Facebook Messenger has had the dark mode option for a long time. The app got it before most other popular apps out there, and it actually has an excellent implementation of a dark mode. Facebook Messenger defaults to an AMOLED black dark mode. You can choose to enable it, or stick to the light mode. Facebook Messenger can also adapt to your system setting via the ‘Automatic’ option. Facebook Messenger, as most of you know, is one of the most popular messaging apps out there. This is Facebook’s own service, as is WhatsApp. Unlike WhatsApp, however, Facebook Messenger was not purchased from someone else, Facebook developed this service over time. The app used to be plagued with bugs, but that is not the case for quite some time now. In fact, it’s a real joy using this app. Advertisement Google Play rating: 4.4 out of 5 stars Overdrop is one of the more popular weather apps out there. The app looks great in any mode, but it does offer both light and dark ones. Now, by default, the dark mode defaults to a dark gray dark mode, but if you’re willing to subscribe to Overdrop, you’ll be able to access the AMOLED dark mode. It’s unfortunate that a pitch black dark mode is a paid feature, but there you go. Advertisement Overdrop also has a ton of themes at your disposal, you can really change the look of the app to the max. Some themes are free, others not so much. It would be best for you to install the app, and see what’s on offer. Overdrop is a weather app that delivers a lot of information. In fact, it’s one of the best design and info combos out there, which is why so many people love this app. Google Play rating: 4.7 out of 5 stars If you’re a sports fan, the SofaScore app is difficult to avoid. This live score app can keep you up to date with what’s going on with your favorite sport, as there are tons of them available in the app. That being said, SofaScore does offer a dark mode as well. There are actually two types available, a regular dark mode with a dark gray background, and a proper AMOLED night mode. SofaScore is an excellent live score app. You can set up push notifications to be notified when a specific event occurs in a match, there are some fine-tuning options for this. The app also has news included, tons of information about clubs, players, and more. You can even access some video content for specific sports, such as goals in the most popular soccer leagues around the world. Google Play rating: 4.4 out of 5 stars Viber also supports AMOLED dark mode, but that’s not the only one it supports. There is also a gray dark mode, and this shade of gray is lighter than you’d find on most other apps, by the way. The point is, the choice is there. Viber, on its own, doesn’t need much introduction in this day and age. Viber is one of the most popular messaging platforms you’ll find on Android. It’s a cross-platform messaging service, though. Viber has been around for a long time, and it did evolve over the years. It offers a ton of features. You can send text messages, conduct voice and video calls, send GIFs, and so much more. There really are tons of features included in this app, and it’s one of the most feature-rich messaging platforms available. Google Play rating: 4.2 out of 5 stars Instagram also opted for an AMOLED black dark mode. It does look great in the app, as a contrast to the images and videos that keep popping up on the feed. Instagram defaults its dark mode to the AMOLED black one, by the way. You can also use the automatic option, so that the app adapts to your phone’s system setting. Instagram, much like Viber, doesn’t exactly need much of an introduction. Instagram became one of the most popular image and video sharing platforms out there. It was always well-known for sharing images, but it also did great things for the popularization of short-form video content. Instagram is being used by tons of people these days, and its popularity didn’t exactly drop over the years. Google Play rating: 4.3 out of 5 stars Solid Explorer is one of the best file manager applications on the Google Play Store. This app is immensely versatile, and it does include an AMOLED black dark mode. In fact, Solid Explorer has a built-in theming system of sorts, which allows you to mix and match themes. You can opt for a regular AMOLED black dark theme, in combination with a specific color for accents, or go with something entirely different. As already mentioned, this is one of the best file managers for Android. Not only does it look great, but it offers tons of features. It can do all the basic tasks file managers are expected to do, and pretty much every advanced one you can think of. You can access FTP servers with this app, manage files on your cloud storage or NAS, manage files in a dual pane layout, and so much more. Google Play rating: 4.4 out of 5 stars YouTube Music is Google’s app, of course. Unlike most other Google-made apps, though, this one does not include a gray dark mode. YouTube Music has a full-blown AMOLED black dark mode, and it looks great here. That is actually contrary to the main YouTube app, as that app has a regular dark gray dark mode. Yes, you can automate dark mode in YouTube Music, if you want. This app/service is one of the most popular tools for music streaming. YouTube Music has a vast library of audio files, though do note that you’ll need a subscription to get access to everything. Luckily, a subscription is included with YouTube Premium, so you both remove ads from YouTube (and gain new features), and get access to YouTube Music’s full library.
