Including the Ocean, there are seven fully-fleshed-out biomes that players can explore in Valheim , although future updates are planned for the Deep North and Ashlands. Each biome gets progressively harder and presents players with new challenges and, of course, new rewards as well. Players will want to make sure they spend an adequate amount of time in each biome, upgrading their gear and taking advantage of the resources before moving on to their next adventure. 7 Meadows The Meadows biome is by far the safest biome in Valheim and players will soon come to associate it with safety and home, always serving as a refuge throughout the game. Despite being the safest place in the game, players are nonetheless dropped in with naught but their fists, meaning that survival is by no means guaranteed. With dangerous Boars and Greylings, players will need to make the most out of Wood, Stone, and Flint to see off these foes and farm their resources. The Meadows are also a great place to learn how to build and players will find themselves returning to the Meadows to build their main bases . 6 Black Forest After settling into the world of Valheim in the lush Meadows, players will want to venture into the Black Forest. Here, they will find new trees including Pine which drops Core Wood, as well as ores for Tin and Copper, that can be forged into Bronze. Valheim's Bronze weapons and armor are absolutely vital for surviving deep into the Black Forest and taking the first steps into the following Swamp biome. The enemies that players will come across in the Black Forest include Skeletons, Greydwarf variations, and massive Trolls that are capable of destroying anything they set their eyes on. 5 Ocean While the other biomes in Valheim have a linear progression in terms of difficulty, the Ocean biome is a bit of an anomaly. Technically, the Ocean can be accessed by players as soon as they have built a Raft, but it is often better to wait until they have a Karve or even a Longship. These boats have storage, seats, much higher durability, and of course, can travel at greater speeds. In terms of danger, the Ocean itself is a hazard. When storms arise, players will find themselves pounded by the waves and may crash into unseen rocks, damaging their boat of choice. The hardest thing about the Ocean biome are the gigantic Serpents that come out either at night, when it is raining, or during thunderstorms. There are also colossal Leviathans that players can climb onto to mine Chitin, though as each hit increases the Leviathan's chances of sinking, players must be ready to get off at a moment's notice. 4 Swamp The Swamp is arguably the scariest-looking biome in Valheim and the creatures that inhabit these wetlands don't exactly give off friendly vibes either. The enemies of the Swamp include Draugr, Leeches, Blobs, and even the aptly named Abominations, which are massive tree-like creatures. To survive in Valheim's Swamps , players will need to stock up on Poison Resistance Mead and ideally take a friend or two with them into the Sunken Crypts where Scrap Iron is found. The sooner players can arm themselves with Iron, the better, especially for taking on the Swamp's boss, Bonemass. 3 Mountain While the enemies of the Mountain biome in Valheim aren't significantly more dangerous than those found in the Swamp, the cold is a danger in itself. Without Frost Resistance Mead, players will simply freeze to death in the mountains, and because this Mead only lasts for a while, the first materials players will want to acquire are 6 Wolf Pelts, 4 Silver, and 1 Wolf Trophy. Together these can be crafted into a Wolf Fur Cape which permanently protects against the cold. Once players are warm enough, they can set their focus on the creatures that inhabit the Mountain biome. These include Wolves, Drakes, Stone Golems, and Fenrings, at night. Inside Frost Caves, players will also come across Bats, Ulve, and Cultists. The boss of the Mountain biome is Moder . 2 Plains The Plains biome is where things start to get really hard in Valheim. In many of the easier biomes, players are able to run away from their would-be killers, but thanks to the biome's pesky Deathsquitos, that isn't always possible in the Plains. These flying menaces deal huge amounts of damage and will even chase players out to sea. Thankfully, with one of Valheim's shields and good timing, they can be deflected. Clans of goblin-like Fulings also inhabit the Plains, alongside herds of Lox which, despite being dangerous, can also be tamed to the player's advantage. Blackmetal is the key component of much of the armor and weapons unlocked in the Plains, and players should stock up on it as soon as possible. 1 Mistlands After the Mistlands update, the Mistlands is now fully fleshed out and by far the hardest biome in Valheim. The first thing that players will notice upon entering this new land is the persistent thick mist, which makes navigation and even combat much harder. To survive in the Mistlands of Valheim , players will need to make sure they are fully upgraded with resources from previous biomes and should familiarize themselves with the new magic system, Eitr. They should also get to know the strengths and weaknesses of their new foes, which include Seekers, Ticks, and Gjall. Valheim is available now for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S
