Uber is upping its game with the acquisition of a mapping startup. The company is buying deCarta, which was founded in 1996. The move will help it improve its own mapping system as it attempts to make the delivery service more convenient and effective for riders. “With the acquisition of deCarta, we will continue to fine-tune our products and services that rely on maps—for example UberPOOL, the way we compute ETAs, and others—and make the Uber experience even better for our users.” said an Uber spokesperson. Google ( GOOG , GOOGL ) is one of Uber’s largest backers, but the company plans on making its own ride app to compete with it. Details of the deal have yet to be announced. More From InvestorPlace
