SINGAPORE: Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) M2 World Championships had over 136 million views across eight live streaming platforms and two broadcast stations. Organised by Moonton Technology, a global video game company dedicated in game development, publication and esports, the championship was an event in partnership with Singapore’s Cybersports and Online Gaming Association (SCOGA) and supported by the Singapore Tourism Board. EXPONENTIAL RISE IN VIEWS This year’s competition saw a total watch time of 42 million hours, streamed through multiple platforms including YouTube gaming, Facebook, Nimo TV, TikTok, and Twitch with Indonesia recorded 42.16 per cent of the total views, exceeding 50mil reach across MLBB’s official platforms. Over the course of six days, the match between Burmese Ghouls and Bren Esports was the most-watched fight which saw a peak in concurrent users (PCU) at 3,083,245, up 353 per cent from last year. The average concurrent users (ACU) also saw more than 300 per cent rise as compared to last year at 689,737. LIVE STREAM MOMENTUM TO GO ON Despite the challenges posed by Covid-19 pandemic, the M2 was the first successful global offline esports event held in 2021. Held in Singapore, the annual tournament hosted 12 teams who competed for a prize pool of US$300,000, with Bren Esports ultimately walking away as the winners. The viewership figures for M2 reflect the strong growth and interest for esports, and momentum for the game will continue on with the upcoming MPL tournaments. “E-sports have provided much needed-entertainment and joy to international audiences in these unprecedented times. We are extremely heartened by the growing support of our partners and players for M2, and we hope to continue bringing joy to the community through our MPL League that has already kickstarted efforts across Southeast Asia,” said Moonton Esports’ managing director, Lucas Mao.
