Latest Cruz Foam News
Nov 21, 2022
November 21, 2022 The fight against packaging that pollutes the environment has recently received a major boost. California-based Cruz Foam has announced that actors Leonardo DiCaprio and Ashton Kutcher have invested $3.4 million in their company, which has begun making a Styrofoam substitute from shrimp shells. Huge amounts of styrofoam are used for single use, when delivering various products. Whirlpool was among the first to recognize this packaging advantage. “The mission to eliminate single-use plastics and fight for a clean and sustainable environment makes me excited to join as an investor and advisor, and I look forward to what we can accomplish together,” DiCaprio said. “We see tremendous potential in Cruz Foam’s packaging applications as the industry moves away from petroleum-based products and toward new biomaterials technologies,” said Kucer. The material they use comes from chitin extracted from shrimp shells. As they say, it is the second most abundant biopolymer on the planet. Other ingredients include starch and other natural materials. According to the founders, consumers want materials that protect products and do not cause harm. “Our products are circular in nature. We use biopolymers from nature to create a compostable material using the existing supply chain at a similar price,” stated Cruz Foam. E2 portal
