July 3, 2023 Between June 22 and 25, 2023, in the Aroneanu recreation area in Iasi, the eighth edition of the Rocanotherworld festival took place. For four days, united by the three values of the festival, #becurious, #bedifferent and #beforothers, the audience in attendance enjoyed concerts, educational games, recreational activities, debates, art installations and more. The organizers have announced the dates of the ninth edition of Rocanotherworld, which will take place between June 20 and 23, 2024 in Iași, and tickets have already gone on sale online . Rocanotherworld 2023 had more than 17,000 participants, and the concerts broadcast live online had more than 80,000 views from the audience present in the digital environment. The Rocanotherworld 2023 line-up brought together iconic names of the international music scene such as Madrugada and Warhaus or the emerging project of the French women from Ottis Coeur, with emblematic artists of the domestic alternative such as Subcarpathia, The Mono Jacks, byron, Luna Amară, Moonlight Breakfast, Basska, We Singing Colors, Orkid, HVNDS, Andra Andriucă, Muse Quartet, Zimbru, Coven Clash and Rana. The electronic music scene, Silent Disco and Longe Area were represented by Mihai Popoviciu, Afgo, Lemon, UFE, Bully, K-Lu, Alien, Andrei C., Cristu and Eduard Draude. The 10 DJs animated the dance floors and delighted the audience with a vibrant mix of electronic beats, drum and bass, soulful and groovy. As part of Rocanotherworld 2023, two debates took place in Acaju: “Ethics and balance in the world of cultural events” had as guests Ștefan Teișanu, Iulia Pop, Corina Giurgia, Amelia Gheorghiță and Patricia Butucel, and the discussion “Art, People and AI” it was carried by Marius Ursache, Maria Comârlău, Ciprian Făcăeru and moderated by Ștefan Teișanu. The mission assumed since 2021 of an environmentally friendly festival, together with the main partner, Kaufland Romania, continued this year as well, the entire organization being carried out on the principles of prevention, reuse, redesign and recycling. In order to achieve the proposed objectives, the main actions undertaken during the festival are: separate collection of waste, elimination of single-use plastic from the food and beverage area, personalization of textiles through bio-dyeing, elimination of classic OOH promotion (banners, panels, posters) and replacing them with digital street signs, the use of sustainable materials in the production of furniture and signage, the use of green, renewable energy for ambient lighting. As part of the call for artistic projects carried out with the support of the main partner, Kaufland Romania, a sustainable artistic installation made on zero waste friendly principles was financed, and its winner is Savin Mihai Aureliu. The installation was exhibited during the festival during its entire duration. Also with the support of the main partner, the festival participants benefited from an artistic phone charging installation powered by photovoltaic panels, made by the Noble Mind Concepts Workshop, and the artist Ionut Ciocan who are active within it mention: „The art installation “AnotherWorld” brings together visual art and design in an unprecedented form. Through its sculptural elements, vibrant colors and renewable energy system, it offers a sustainable solution that transforms public space into a curious and energetic place, inspiring the public to explore new horizons. The sculptural elements integrated in the urban furniture serve as a support for the solar charging system that helps to minimize the negative impact on the environment. The aim of the work is to inspire and encourage the community to adopt a broader perspective on art and sustainability, highlighting the power of creativity and innovation in their contribution to the common good. Art can be a powerful force for change and prompt us to be more aware, more curious, more different and be there for each other.” On June 24 and 25, two Climate Collage Workshops took place, a board game about climate change, based on collective intelligence and creativity. To help reduce the carbon footprint, the use of alternative transport has been encouraged (by installing a bicycle parking lot right at the entrance) and public transport hours have been extended until 03:00, with regular routes to and from the city, provided by the help of the Iași City Hall and the Iași Public Transport Company. During the festival, the team of the Iași Drug Prevention, Evaluation and Counseling Center was invited, offering information services to all interested persons, thus encouraging responsible and safe behavior among young people prone to the influence of consumption. Rocanotherworld is a pet friendly festival, and within the campaign “Do you have a blanket?” more than 260 kg of dry and wet food for dogs and cats, 450 lei, cleaning products, litter boxes and cat houses, bowls and many other products needed for the stray animals in the Iasi paddocks were donated. The campaign represents a celebration and a continuation of the approach initiated by Ioan Dan Niculescu, the creative from Iași in whose memory the festival takes place. Charity direction Rocanotherworld , which has become a tradition, continues this year as well, by supporting the #Preƨent educational project, implemented by the Creative Industries Association, with the support of Kaufland Romania and DGASPC Iași, Bacău, Botoşani, Piatra Neamț, Vaslui. This initiative provides access to alternative and non-formal education for 200 institutionalized children, with a view to equal opportunities, from the counties of Moldova. Thus, the organizers of Rocanotherworld propose at the end of the summer to carry out recreational activities for children outside the centers, in the form of camps. Rocanotherworld is an exploratory festival of music, art, thoughts, people and ideas, organized in Iasi by the Creative Industries Association and Showberry, which was born in 2016, in memory of Ioan Dan Niculescu.
