About Coral Network
Producer of a network management switch and network management software system. The switch, called the Broadband Enterprise Switch, offers the functionality of bridges, routers, and T3 multiplexers. The switch integrates widely dispersed data, voice, and video, transmitting them through the local area or wide area network. Sources such as digital private branch exchanges, video teleconferencing equipment, and IBM Systems Network Architecture networks may be combined over T3 lines. The switch supports FDDI networks, Ethernet, and token-ring topologies. As a router, the system handles major protocols including TCP/IP, DECnet, XNS, and Novell IPX. When functioning as a bridge, the Spanning Tree Protocol selects the best path for the information. The network management system runs under Unix on a Sun SPARCstation 1 or 1+, providing real-time management of the switches. The software supports X Windows and Open Software Foundation's Motifs. Information relating to the network--events, statistics, account management information, etc--may be stored and retrieved using Ingres' Structured Query Language relational database. Vitalink Communications sells the switches, priced from $20,000 to $100,000. The network management system is $14,995.
