Microsoft Acquires Cooper & Peters; Leading Component Developers to Join Microsoft AFC Effort Posted 0 REDMOND, Wash., June 13, 1997 — Microsoft Corp. today announced its acquisition of Cooper & Peters Inc., a leading developer of object-oriented user-interface framework technologies for Java ™and Smalltalk. The move is expected to further accelerate the acceptance of Microsoft® Application Foundation Classes (AFC), the industry’s most comprehensive set of Java class libraries available, which help developers create modern applications in Java more quickly. “With nearly a decade of object-oriented design experience, Cooper & Peters brings a proven expertise that can help extend the Application Foundation Classes’ lead as the industry’s most comprehensive foundation classes for Java,” said John Ludwig, vice president of the Internet client and collaboration division at Microsoft. “More world-class talent means Microsoft can move even faster on its goal to deliver the world’s best solutions for developers of Java and other object-oriented languages.” “We want to make the largest possible impact on the industry, and Microsoft is the place to do that,” said Ted Peters, principal at Cooper & Peters, who along with Ken Cooper will join Microsoft’s AFC development team. “The opportunity to help drive the next generation of user interface frameworks is a win-win for us, Microsoft and our customers.” Cooper & Peters Inc., based in Boulder, Colo., is a software development firm specializing in the creation of object-oriented user-interface frameworks and applications.
