Eric co-founded Canaan, spinning it out from GE Ventures. Over 30 years, Eric’s leadership has been foundational to mentoring multiple generations of Canaan investors and building the firm’s culture.
Since Canaan’s founding, Eric has led investments in numerous market-leading tech companies, helping them grow from inception to exit. Eric has partnered with startups that have defined their industries: Argon Networks, Capstone Turbine, Copper Mountain Networks, Diffusion Software, Ebates, Enpirion, Frame Technology, International Network Services, Kalpana, Lancope, ONI Systems, SandForce, Spectrian and Visigenic Software.
Before starting Canaan, Eric was a Senior VP at GE Venture Capital, where he led successful investments in companies such as Nellcor and Octel Communications. Eric also held a variety of sales, marketing and operations management positions at GE in two power-related industrial product businesses.
Eric serves on the Advisory Council of Cornell’s entrepreneurship initiative, and on the steering committee for the IT security industry group SINET. Eric earned a B.S. in mechanical engineering from Cornell University and an M.B.A. from Northwestern University.
