Geolocation is an unstoppable train that will shape how we read news. Centrinews promises to deliver on that promise. For publishers, Centrinews allows any publisher to be a hyperlocal publisher for $1/article. It also serves as a means to let users discover your articles outside of the current readership silos. For readers, Centrinews gives a list of articles sorted by the physical reference within the story. At the top of the list will be stories that mention the spot they are standing on, then stories within .1 miles, .2 miles, etc. Publishers can present their own articles in this manner, integrating the service into their apps for no additional cost, or a user can see aggregated articles across many publishers through other channels. During my validation of this idea, police departments (for public notices) and museums also expressed strong interest in adding content. The local NPR station asked about adding their archives to be discovered in this way.
