Used as a detection system, the process can be adapted to detect a wide variety of substances. Developed with support of MMCRI, Jane Havey of Capricorn Products and the Maine Center for Innovation and Biotechnology (CIBT, the predecessor to MTI), Dr Waldrop hopes to license the technology to clients in the fields of bio-technology and environmental detection. Various companies in the United States, in Japan and in Spain have used the product on a trial basis. The U.S. patent is still pending. This technology has been applied to antibody-based diagnostics.
