The 112-key Radisson Mumbai Andheri MIDC is slated for a 2019 opening. Carlson Rezidor and GHV Hospitality India are partnering to develop the new Radisson, which Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group will manage. The hotel will be added to Carlson Rezidor’s global Radisson brand portfolio of more than 200 hotels in operation and development throughout the world upon completion in 2019. Radisson Mumbai Andheri MIDC is in MIDC, an industrial zone of Mumbai with numerous manufacturing units. The hotel is near the Mumbai International Airport and is expected to generate corporate and leisure demand due to its location. The hotel is also close to major residential and infrastructural developments, commercial buildings, retail and health care facilities. Carlson Rezidor currently holds a portfolio of 140 hotels in operation and under development across 60 Indian cities, including 16 state capitals. This announcement follows Carlson Rezidor’s appointment of its new president of Asia Pacific. Based in Singapore, Katerina Giannouka will join the team no later than Dec. 4, 2017 and will report directly to John Kidd, CEO and COO of Carlson Hotels. Giannouka will be a member of Carlson Hotels’ executive leadership committee, where she will work with the global and Asia Pacific leadership teams to drive growth for Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group. In her role, she will be responsible for leading the Asia Pacific executive committee and its corporate offices in Singapore, Shanghai and Delhi. Before joining Carlson Rezidor, Giannouka was the head of development for Asia Pacific and China for Rosewood Hotel Group . Based in Hong Kong, she spearheaded the region’s development activities for Rosewood Hotels & Resorts, New World Hotels & Resorts and Pentahotels. Prior to that, she held roles with Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide and HVS . “Asia Pacific is a key growth engine for Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group as we expand our presence and develop our successes,” Kidd said in a statement. “Katerina’s dynamic and energetic leadership experience, complemented with business intelligence and a tenacious work ethic, are testament to her accomplishments in Asia Pacific and EMEA. Carlson Rezidor, GHV Hospitality India ink new Radisson hotel

Spanish hotel company Barcelo Hotels is reportedly eyeing a takeover of its domestic competitor NH Hotel Group , and has tapped Santander Bank to examine options. The acquisition could make the company one of Spain’s biggest hotel chains. This is only the latest twist in an impressively convoluted saga of hospitality and investment and shareholder infighting. It could also pose a challenge to China's HNA Group, which has been on a hospitality spending spree for that last several years, but one that may now be curtailed by Chinese government regulators. HNA comes from a tourism background—perhaps a reason why many of its recent acquisitions have been in the hospitality space. Last year, HNA acquired Carlson Hotels, and subsequently tapped Federico González Tejera, the former CEO of NH Hotel Group  to lead the company , replacing then-CEO David Berg. HNA choosing Tejera to run Carlson was not by chance: HNA owns 30 percent of NH, which resulted in shareholder strife  over what some perceived as a conflict of interest over HNA owning both companies. When Tejera was ousted at NH, HNA called the move "reckless" and "punitive. " HNA filed a lawsuit last September asking for the decision to be reversed, but a Madrid court dismissed the claim on Tuesday—paving the way for Barcelo to step in and swoop NH up. González Tejera, meanwhile, was later promoted to president & CEO of Rezidor in May, succeeding Wolfgang M. Neumann. HNA also bought a  25-percent stake in Hilton  from the Blackstone Group last year—an investment that Adam Tan, vice chairman and CEO of HNA Group, referred to as "consistent with our strategy to enhance our global tourism business. " Beyond Hilton, Carlson and NH, HNA also  owns 15 percent of Red Lion Hotels Corp. , and before that made an ultimately ill-fated  play for Amanresorts . But the international wheeling and dealing may be over . Last month, China formally implemented measures to limit and restrict what it calls extensive overseas investments made by domestic groups. China's State Council has released a guideline "to promote healthy growth of overseas investment and prevent risks." Sectors on the restriction list include real estate, hotels, entertainment, sport clubs, outdated industries and projects in countries with no diplomatic relations with China. These restrictions could also make it easier for 
Meanwhile, HNA’s biggest (nominal) shareholder has released a video defending himself against accusations of corruption. The identity of Guan Jun—and how he came to hold such a large stake in a large firm—is largely a mystery even in his own country, according to the Financial Times . HNA executives had previously explained to the Financial Times that the large shareholding was simply held in Guan’s name but in fact represented the interests of HNA insiders. HNA executives have denied to the site that Guan "is or ever was a manager for the company," as some have speculated. Investing in Spain
Barcelo has good reason to be interested in NH Hotel Group, especially its properties in Spain. The group described Spain as having performed “ excellently throughout the first half , boosted by business dynamism in cities such as Madrid and Barcelona”, where revenue rose by 12.5 percent and 11.1 percent respectively, with the secondary cities showing an increase of 10.2 percent. While neither Barcelo, NH or Santander had officially commented as of late Wednesday afternoon, sources claimed that shareholders of the companies were talking unofficially. Barcelo Hotel Group has more than 100 hotels in 20 countries, and nearly half of those hotels are in Spain. It’s only been a few weeks since the China-based HNA Group closed on its acquisition of Carlson Hotels  in December and already, major signs of change are appearing. Chief among them is a change in leadership. Carlson Hotels CEO David Berg, who joined the hotel company in 2014 as COO and became CEO in May 2015, will be leaving, effective February 1. Federico González Tejera, who was most recently CEO of NH Hotel Group , will replace Berg. When the the companies announced  the HNA deal in April, news reports noted Berg would lead the organization under the new ownership. In Wednesday’s news release, Carlson cited no specific reason for Berg’s abrupt, and perhaps surprising, departure. Carlson Hotels had no further comment regarding Berg’s replacement as CEO. Berg was originally scheduled to speak this week at The Americas Lodging Investment Summit in Los Angeles, but did not attend the conference, perhaps because of this impending announcement. Since 2012, González Tejera had served as CEO of NH Hotel Group before being removed in June 2016 . Angry shareholders, led by Oceanwood Capital, alleged that HNA Group’s then-pending purchase of Carlson Hotels, and likely Rezidor, would pose a major conflict of interest for Tejera and board members with ties to HNA Group, which owned about one-third of NH Hotel Group. Carlson had a 51.3 percent ownership stake in Rezidor and HNA Group is in the process of seeking Rezidor board and shareholder approval  to acquire the remaining shares. HNA’s news release Wednesday regarding González Tejera’s appointment noted his role in “develop[ing] and execut[ing] a Five-Year-Plan that helped significantly transform the company’s brand position and renovation strategy and increase profitability.”
Perhaps not coincidentally, on the same day that the appointment of González Tejera as the new Carlson CEO, NH Hotel Group’s board of directors nominated a new CEO too: Ramon Aragones Marin, NH Hotel Group’s former executive managing director of business and operations. Former NH Hotel Group co-chairman and chairman of the board, Charles Bromwell Mobus Jr., has also been appointed as the new director of the Carlson Hotels board. In a statement, Mobus said, “David Berg led Carlson Hotels through a successful period of global portfolio growth while at the same time increasing profitability, improving competitiveness, and delivering substantial gains in guest satisfaction. Our confidence in the future potential of Carlson Hotels is due in no small part to his efforts. Federico has an established track record and long-held experience in the hospitality industry, and we are confident in his ability to build upon this strong foundation.”
In the same news release, González Tejera said, “Carlson Hotels is a respected leader in the global hospitality industry and has a portfolio of world-class brands. I am excited to have the opportunity to lead this great business and continue to drive global growth. I look forward to working with David to ensure a smooth transition, and to joining the talented team he has cultivated over the past three years.”
If HNA’s name sounds familiar, it’s because the company is an investor in a multitude of global hospitality companies. In addition to being a major shareholder in NH Hotel Group and the owner of Carlson Hotels, it also has investments in Red Lion Hotels Corp . and soon it will be a 25-percent stakeholder in Hilton Worldwide . The company provided no additional details on whether the leadership change will also mean a change in the headquarters location for Carlson Hotels. In accordance with the decision made by the Annual General Meeting on 21 April 2016, Rezidor's Nominating Committee was established in October 2016. Based on the list of shareholders as per 31 August 2016, the three largest known shareholders were contacted, each of which was offered the possibility to appoint one representative to the Nominating Committee. On December 7, 2016, HNA Tourism Group Co, Ltd. ("HNA") announced the successful completion of its purchase of Carlson Hotels Inc. from Carlson Hospitality Group, Inc. This transaction included Carlson's stake in Rezidor, representing 51.3% of outstanding shares. After the closing of this transaction, HNA informed Rezidor that it was to replace Carlson's representative on the Nominating Committee with Mr. Charles Mobus. The other two representatives, Tomas Risbecker representing AMF Försäkring och Fonder, and Fredrik Carlsson representing Provobis Holding AB, remain the same. The members of the Nominating Committee have appointed Mr. Mobus to chair the committee. The Nominating Committee shall prepare and submit proposals to the Annual General Meeting regarding the number of Board members to be elected, the election of the Chairman and other members of the Board, remuneration of the Board members and any remuneration for committee work, election of Chairman for the Annual General Meeting, election of auditors (when applicable) and fees paid to them and suggestion for rules for appointing the Nominating Committee for the Annual General Meeting 2018.
