PottyCap, Yumlish capture top prizes in latest “Pitch for Good” virtual competition

Jun 1, 2021

on May 31 st, 2021 By Tom Ballard, Chief Alliance Officer, PYA Two start-ups, including one that captured the “Crowd Favorite” award in a competition less than two months ago, won $2,000 each in last Thursday’s “Pitch for Good: Health Care Edition” hosted by the Nashville Entrepreneur Center (EC). The winners were Faye Pryor, a Physical Therapist and inventor of a device called the PottyCap , and Shireen Abdulla, Chief Executive Officer of Yumlish , a company that has developed a chat and web-based approach to delivering nutritional advice to Latinos. Pryor had pitched PottyCap, which she described as a “portable urinal for women” who are hospitalized or otherwise incapacitated, when the “Pitch for Good” series resumed in late April with its “Black Founders Edition.” Her pitch captured the “Crowd Favorite” during that competition. The winner of the “Crowd Favorite” award in last week’s event was FastAsleep, a patented product that was described as a safe and reliable way for dentists to streamline nasal intubation in their patients. In addition to these three start-ups, the others pitching were: Michael Sentz who described CaringWire which provides personalized education and recommendations for those caring for older parents or family members. Sentz has described the motivation for launching the company in his personal story at this link . Kym Moyer, a Primary Care Physician and a past competitor in an EC “Pitch for Good” event where she was also the winner of the “Crowd Favorite” award. She founded Magnolia Family Medicine which does not have a waiting room under its model that provides more affordable, accessible primary care “without the barriers and red tape imposed by your health insurance company.” It does so on a monthly membership fee. Mandy Major, Founder of Major CareTM , said the start-up is focused on connecting new parents with virtual postpartum doulas who provide affordable and accessible remote care. The company has a live Beta underway using what it has named the “ My Fourth App ,” a reference to the first three months after a baby is born. CaringWire, Major CareTM, and Yumlish are either current participants or alumni of the EC’s “Project Healthcare” that was recently expanded to become “Project Healthcare and Entertainment.” Judges for this competition were: (1) Dan Rumley, Sales Development Manager for Dell Technologies ; (2) Jacqueline Shreibati, Clinical Lead for Consumer Health for Google Health ; (3) Saurabh Sinha, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of emids ; and (4) Zach Todd, General Manager of GPSources .
