LONDON, UK: CAP-XX Limited has signed a binding term sheet in relation to a joint venture (JV) with Ionic Industries Limited for the commercialisation of reduced graphene oxide (rGO) for supercapacitors and other energy storage devices. CAP-XX Limited is a world leader in the design and manufacture of thin, flat supercapacitors and energy management systems. Highlights:
· CAP-XX and Ionic have entered into the Agreement to exclusively commercialise Ionic’s rGO material for supercapacitors and other energy storage devices
· The rGO material’s highly conductive structure improves the packing density of the active materials in devices’ electrodes, while maintaining high power performance
· Ionic’s rGO graphene oxide technology has already been shown to increase electrode energy density by over 100% compared to CAP-XX’s current electrode. This is expected to translate into supercapacitor energy densities of 15 to 20 watt-hours (Wh)/litre or 10-15 Wh/kg, which is approaching the energy density of lead acid batteries, while aiming to provide significantly superior power density and cycle life
· supercapacitors utilising rGO material are expected to serve a wide range of applications including: electric vehicles; vehicles powered by internal combustion engines; microgrid storage; smart meters; e-locks, asset trackers and various IoT devices
· In addition, rGO materials are expected to have applications across a range of hybrid capacitors and batteries
· CAP-XX’s Customers are expected to receive samples around mid-2024
Ionic Industries is an Australian company based in Melbourne, developing new forms of graphene for a variety of markets. Its work on commercialising graphene materials began in collaboration with Monash University in 2011. Ionic’s collaboration with Monash has resulted in six government grant programs, numerous publications and global recognition, notably in the field of energy storage. Pursuant to the Agreement, Ionic will procure a licence for rGO in favour of the JV, which will have exclusive worldwide use of these materials for supercapacitors, batteries and other energy storage devices and Ionic will sell rGO products to the JV. CAP-XX will manufacture and sell supercapacitors and energy storage devices using rGO, on behalf of the JV, under the CAP-XX brand. The Agreement is subject to the completion of various conditions precedent and the establishment of a joint venture vehicle, which will be owned on a 51% CAP-XX : 49% Ionic basis. CAP-XX Limited ( LON:CPX ) shares rose on Tuesday as the maker of supercapacitors and energy management systems delivered narrowed losses amid a rise in the size of its order book. In its results for the year to June 30, the AIM-listed company reported an adjusted net loss of A$2mln, narrowed from A$2.8mln in the prior year, while revenues from continuing operations increased 12% to A$3.6mln. Cap-XX said that its sales order book at the end of the period had more than doubled in value since the same time last year, adding that an expansion project for the production lines of its Ex-Murata dual cell supercapacitor was on schedule and within its a$5.3mln budget. A new facility is also in the final stages of commissioning, the firm said, with tested supercapacitor products to be available for shipment to customers before the end of the current calendar year. Cap-XX added that the aggregate level of customer enquiries “well exceeds the full capacity of these production lines”, with the top ten prospects exceeding 9mln units per annum. Looking ahead, the firm said its major focus “continues to become profitable and cashflow positive as soon as possible” by leveraging the successful commissioning of the newly installed Murata production equipment to facilitate increased product sales. "We are pleased to be able to report excellent progress as we approach completion of the Murata production lines expansion project, against a highly challenging international business environment”, Cap-XX chief executive Anthony Kongats said in a statement. “Meanwhile, we have succeeded in improving CAP-XX's underlying trading performance, growing sales and doubling the orderbook. Supercapacitors specialist CAP-XX Limited ( LON:CPX ) said revenue for the year to June 30 will likely be up 15% at A$3.7mln, though it added that sales in the second half had been affected by a slowdown in shipments caused by the coronavirus pandemic. The company flagged that it expects to post an underlying A$2mln loss, up from A$1.6mln a year earlier. However, it added the order book “is greater than twice the level at the same point last year”. “This increase has been driven by the medical, security and telecommunication market segments,” it went on. Cash as of May 8 was A$4.4mln with a A$3.3mln payment from the Australian tax office expected in the fourth quarter. CAP-XX Limited, a world leader in the design and manufacture of supercapacitors and energy management systems, will be announcing its interim results for the half-year to December 31 2019 on Monday 16thMarch 2020. Total sales revenue for the half year was A$1.93m and net cash as at the end of February 2020 stood at A$6.4m. The results are expected to be in line with the board's expectations, while good progress continues to be made on licensing and litigation related activities. The Company has also made excellent progress with the project to transfer the former Murata manufacturing assets. The first shipment occurred on schedule in March and the initial consideration has been paid to Murata. The final shipments are expected to leave Murata in April. The lease on CAP-XX's new Sydney manufacturing facility, where the assets will be installed, has been signed and recruitment of personnel has been largely completed.
