Cadia is aninnovator in the development of multiservice WAN adaptation andconcentration technology for the service provider market. Theacquisition enhances FORE's ATM leadership position by addinghigh-density, carrier class access technology to FORE's ATM-basedservice provider offerings. FORE's ATM-based solutions provide unique benefits toservice providers, enabling the consolidation of multiple networks andtraffic types (e.g., IP, frame relay, voice, video) onto a single ATMbackbone. FORE's price/performance leading solutions enableservice providers to offer advanced services to their customers atcompetitive pricing. "Cadia Networks was formed to meet the needs of serviceproviders for multiservice adaptation and concentration at dramaticallyreduced capital costs," said Greg Ferguson, president and CEO ofCadia Networks. "Cadia and FORE share a common vision of theemerging service provider architecture, with ATM at the core andmultiservice adaptation at the edge. " Mr. Ferguson will lead FORE's newly formed access productsgroup, based in Andover, Massachusetts. The access products group willdeliver a new family of FORE multiservice adaptation and concentrationproducts based on the Cadia technology in the second half of calendaryear 1997. The acquisition was completed for a total of approximately4,000,000 shares of FORE Systems' stock and FORE Systems'stock options that were substituted for Cadia Networks' stockoptions.
