MEEF funds 100 Tesla Model 3s for vehicle-as-a-service provider Breathe
The Mayor of London’s Energy Efficiency Fund (MEEF) —a £500-million investment fund to deliver low-carbon, sustainable projects and infrastructure in London—is providing capital to Vehicle-as-a-Service provider Breathe , supported by fintech Zeti’s pay-per-mile platform ZERO, for the deployment of 100 Tesla Model 3 electric vehicles to private hire drivers, including Uber, in London. The funding of this zero-emission private hire fleet follows the successful pay-per-mile funding of taxis that Zeti previously delivered in London using MEEF funds. This latest funding will see internal combustion engine vehicles replaced as part of a contribution towards tackling the capital’s air pollution problem and supports the Mayor of London Sadiq Khan’s commitment to zero-emission transport in the capital. Forecasts predict that the Breathe fleet will save 338 tonnes of CO2 being released into the atmosphere per annum and will also achieve an annual average reduction in CO2 emissions equivalent to £5,137 in cost per tonne of CO2. Powered by Zeti’s ZERO, Breathe provides a complete VaaS subscription solution to drivers including offering insurance, maintenance and tire replacements. It also allows drivers to choose between an ‘Everything Included Ownership’ model giving them the option to own the vehicle after four years, or an ‘Everything Included Rental’ model in which the driver subscribes for use on a weekly basis. The Breathe fleet will replace existing gasoline, diesel and hybrid vehicles with Uber which is aiming to be an all-electric platform in London from 2025 onwards. The electric vehicles will also have further advantages over a gasoline and diesel fleet as they are currently exempt from the Congestion and the Ultra-Low Emission Zone (‘ULEZ’) charges. Breathe analytics technology provides the intelligence to manage its operations proactively. Through the Zeti ZERO platform, MEEF will be able to monitor real-time data on vehicle telematics and the overall carbon savings of the fleet based on the total mileage. This is MEEF’s first investment to include both a debt and equity package. MEEF is being supported by Triodos, a leading sustainable bank, which has committed a significant part of MEEF’s capital for the project. This is MEEF’s fourth investment in the low carbon mobility sector. Eligible projects for MEEF include e-mobility, EV charging, alternative fuel stations and hydrogen fuel cells. Since launching in July 2018, MEEF has made investments in the e-mobility, EV charging infrastructure, district heating, street lighting and energy efficiency sectors, creating energy savings of more than 39 million GWh. MEEF was established by the Greater London Authority (GLA) in 2018 and is managed by Amber Infrastructure. MEEF provides a mixture of senior debt, mezzanine debt and equity to London’s public-sector property owners and small-to-medium-sized businesses, including but not exclusively, Local Authorities, NHS Trusts, Registered Providers, Higher and Further Education organisations, Charities and Voluntary Organisations, ESCOs and SMEs. MEEF can fund both up to 100% of the capital cost of a project and part-fund large-scale regeneration projects which demonstrate low-carbon credentials.

First looks of a show or film are always anticipated. The makers of Amazon Prime show, Breathe: Into the shadows released the show’s poster a few days back. Now, Abhishek Bachchan, the lead actor of the show has revealed his first look from the show. Sharing the look on Twitter, Abhishek posted the following tweet:
The actor looks intense whilst sitting on a chair and we can see that the story will be about his missing daughter. Besides Abhishek, the thriller also stars Amit Sadh, Sayami Kher and Nithya Menen in important roles. Breathe: Into The Shadows is a sequel to Amazon Prime’s 2018 hit show, ‘Breathe’. The previous installment starred R Madhavan in the lead. Actor, Amit Sadh is reprising his role of inspector Kabir Sawant in the sequel. The series which is Abhishek’s digital debut has got the actor excited. In an interview he said :
“The thrill of making my digital on-screen debut with Amazon Original Breathe: Into The Shadows has finally kicked in with the recent announcement that was made last Friday. The love and support I have received since we announced the launch date of the show has reinstated my belief of constantly evolving in order to connect with newer audiences.”
Further describing his happiness at the show, he added :
“I am ecstatic to launch my first digital series that is a perfect example of the exciting, genre-defining content that we are now able to consume at our convenience. I am definitely looking forward to the days to come as we slowly unfold Breathe: Into The Shadows to the world.”

Staying home brought new inspiration for Brothers Lazaroff. While in quarantine separately with their wives and children, siblings David and Jeff Lazaroff came up with “Breathe With You,” the unintended follow-up to “Sisters and Brothers,” their jazzy 2019 album. It’s the first acoustic duo project from the St. Louis act. The EP features the siblings on vintage acoustic guitars and vocals on songs that reflect the times. The EP addresses the coronavirus pandemic from different angles though not always directly. “We tried to not always be overt,” says David Lazaroff. “‘Everything Stopped’ is about some of the good stuff about stopping and some of the wisdom with that — trying to find the silver lining.”
“The title track is a song longing for those times we can all be together and be close like we used to be, like at a big sweaty concert,” says Jeff Lazaroff. “‘May G-d Be With You’ is wishing people just that. Be safe and loved.”
The song “Pink Supermoon (for JP)” is inspired by the late singer-songwriter John Prine, who died of COVID-19 complications on April 7, the day the world saw a pink supermoon. Two songs, “I Understand Better Now” and “Walkin’ the Dogs,” are based on the writings of Rabbi James Stone Goodman, a friend and collaborator at their annual Hanukkah Hullabaloo show. Before the lockdown, Brothers Lazaroff were working on a full band album that would have been their most fully collaborative yet. David Lazaroff says the songs were in a country-funk vein. “We were mining this really specific territory,” he says. “The last album was pretty jazzy, and we were going the opposite way, doing straight-up country stuff with a ’70s feel that was also kinda funky, doo-wop and soulful.”
Jeff Larazoff says they were trying to produce something less dark and more uplifting. Then the pandemic hit and changed everything. While adjusting to the lockdown, their guitars initially didn’t call. It started with Bob Dylan, who early in the pandemic released a 17-minute song called “Murder Most Foul.” The legendary artist hadn’t released original music since his “Tempest” album in 2012. The new song is rooted in the assassination of President John F. Kennedy and at one point references the Allman Brothers Band song “Blue Sky,” written by Dickey Betts. The reference made the Lazaroff brothers tear up. It was one of the first songs they jammed on together as youngsters. Dylan’s song and Prine’s death got the brothers fired up. “The next thing you know, we had a full set of songs,” Jeff Lazaroff says. “They’re not all inspired by Dylan or Prine. But they cracked open that window of creativity.”
The brothers got together briefly at the studio, where David used a plexiglass drum shield to separate them. Over the years, Brothers Lazaroff had been asked to consider making an acoustic duo album, but they shied away from the idea. As fully realized musicians, it was the band experience they sought out and stuck with. “We’re loyal to the band. We enjoy the full-band sound,” says David Lazaroff. “We thought about it but never thought we’d ever go all the way and record it and put it on iTunes.”

“We just love playing in bands. We’ve been playing in bands our whole lives,” Jeff Lazaroff says. “We enjoy the ensembles. And when you have Grover (Stewart, drummer) and Teddy (Brookins, bassist), who wants to give that up? So we never really did it.”
Performing without their band took some getting used to — “finding the rhythm, the patterns, the bass, the melody, while still singing,” David Lazaroff says. “Usually Teddy and Grover are doing all the work.”
“We didn’t have the camaraderie — the brotherhood. We had to trust ourselves. It boiled down to the essence of what we do, what our songwriting is about and what our groove is about.”
Brothers Lazaroff haven’t ventured into livestreaming, as other artists are during the pandemic. “We weren’t feeling it so much at first, so we haven’t done it yet. When we do, we want to do it with really good quality,” Jeff Lazaroff says. They first released “Breathe With You” on YouTube . “We wanted it to be there for our people, and we’ve gotten a lot of good feedback for that, people saying thank you for giving them new music at this time,” Jeff Lazaroff says. “Breathe With You” is also available at brotherslazaroff.bandcamp.com and on other streaming platforms.
