Home » World » Controversy Surrounding Brain Monitoring Headbands in Chinese School byarchywordys No Comments Information that we were able to cross-check, in particular via an article in English from the South China Morning Post dated November 1, 2019. “Zhejiang BrainCo Technology, a company with offices in China and the United States, said Thursday that people misinterpreted a report about their product that appeared in the Wall Street Journal last week. The report claimed that students at Xiaoshun Township Central Elementary School in Jinhua, a city in Zhejiang Province, wore the blindfold to measure the electrical signals emitted by neurons and translated them into an attention score. But BrainCo’s statement clarifies that the product, Focus 1, is aimed at improving concentration, not monitoring children’s brain waves.“. The article also indicates that the use of this device, created by the American-Chinese company BrainCo, was stopped after a wave of criticism on state media and on social networks. The British daily The Guardian sparked a reaction from the company after the project was abandoned. In an article published on November 1, 2019, Yang Zhangpeng, Director of Public Relations of Zhejiang BrainCo Technology, said: “I’m not sure why the government banned the use of headbands, but it could be partly due to media pressure“. He added, at the time: “For now, it is the only school in China that uses them. These products are more widely used in the United States, but since Mr. Kong was a student at this school, he decided to donate some of these headbands out of gratitude for his alma materwithout any malicious intent“.
