Henk Rogers’ energy storage systems see swift sales in Hawaii and beyond

Aug 6, 2015

Courtesy Blue Planet Energy Systems LLC Blue Planet Energy Systems' Blue Ion battery energy storage system is now available for… more Hawaii serial entrepreneur Henk Rogers ’ energy storage company, which was formed in partnership with Sony Electronics Inc. and is aimed at ultimately getting homeowners off the electrical grid, has seen swift sales since officially beginning the process last weekend, Rogers told PBN. “We have been inundated with inquiries from Hawaii and around the world,” he told PBN in an email. “We are pleased that the demand is high for our battery storage system. We’re also excited to be announcing shortly our new vice president of sales.” Rogers and his business partners, Vincent Paul Ponthieux and Aleks Velhner , formed Blue Planet Energy Systems LLC, to create the “Blue Ion,” a self-contained energy storage package that combines Sony’s lithium ion battery technology with Blue Planet Energy’s proprietary architecture and software. The system is designed to be quickly and easily installed and have a low, simple payback, although pricing of the system has yet to be revealed. No pricing of these systems has yet been divulged, as Blue Planet Energy prices its systems per each installation, Rogers said. “Most other companies have pre-set packages where one size fits all, but none of these companies are trying to have homes go off the grid,” he said. “In our case we are customizing the systems to take homes off the grid. This requires a very different approach since each installation has unique requirements.” Blue Ion has been utilized by Rogers at his Honolulu home and at his Big Island ranch. On Fourth of July weekend, Rogers celebrated his first anniversary of energy independence — a completely off-the-grid 6,000-square-foot home in Honolulu — by announcing this venture, which he hopes will help more homeowners do the same.
