Email Hacking Allegation Against Groupon Is Withdrawn Jan. 6, 2012, 9:04 AM 443 A lawsuit which accused Groupon of hacking into one of its clients' email systems in order to alter a merchant contract has been voluntarily dismissed by the plaintiff, home improvement web site BidMyCrib.com. The voluntary dismissal notice does not describe why the suit was withdrawn. An attorney for BidMyCrib did not immediately respond to a request for comment. A spokesperson for Groupon declined to comment beyond an email noting "It's important to us that [people] know how frivolous this was. " The suit originally alleged that a Groupon employee somehow gained access to BidMyCrib's email system and retroactively changed the terms of a contract by adding a clause that extended the period in which Groupon customers could redeem a daily deal discount for the site. The suit requested class action status, which had not been granted by the time of the dismissal.
