Hanwha Q Cells files patent infringement suit against Chinese PV module maker in Germany 2021.03.30 14:20:36 | 2021.03.30 15:37:22 Receiver [Photo provided by Hanwha Q Cells Co.] South Korean solar module maker Hanwha Q Cells Co. filed patent infringement suit against China-based photovoltaic module maker Astronergy in Germany. The lawsuit is filed with Düsseldorf Regional Court in Germany, according to Hanwha Q Cells on Tuesday. The Korean firm is accusing Astronergy for infringing its patent in passivated solar cell technology. Hanwha Q Cells has also filed a patent infringement suit on the same technology with a French court against a Chinese firm, only identified by its initial L, and its distributor in France. The company said it was unable to disclose further details due to legal reasons. Previously in March 2019, Hanwha Q Cells took a legal action against Chinese PV module makers Longi Solar and Jinko Solar, and ERC of Norway in Germany over the same technology. The German court ruled in favor of Hanwha Q Cells in June last year and banned the defendants from selling related products in the country. The three firms were also ordered to recall the products sold after Jan. 30, 2020. Hanwha Q Cells is also engaged in the legal battle over the same technology with Jinko Solar in the United States. It lost the first trial at the U.S. International Trade Commission and has proceeded with an appeal. On Tuesday, shares of Hanwha Corp., the holding entity of Hanwha Q Cells parent Hanwha Group, ended 1.8 percent higher at 31,050 won ($27.39) in Seoul. Hanwha Q Cells is not listed.
