Die Gründer der Zürcher Arktis Radiation Detectors sind seit über zehn Jahren im Geschäft. Sechs Jahre nach der ersten Finanzierung über 2.9 Millionen Dollar haben sie nun eine zweite Runde in einstelliger Millionenhöhe durchgezogen. Im Hafen von Antwerpen werden die Geräte von Arktis Radiation Detectors eingesetzt, um Container mit radioaktiv kontaminiertem Material zu identifizieren. Ausserdem nutzen grosse Zulieferer der Nuklearindustrie die Basistechnologie für den Bau eigener Messgeräte. Zu den Endkunden zählen Organisationen wie das das US-Verteidigungsministerium, das Britische Atomic Weapons Establishment oder das Bundesamt für Bevölkerungsschutz. Arktis ging 2007 aus einer Forschungsgruppe von Kernphysikern des Genfer CERN hervor. Durch die Verwendung von optischen Halbleitertechnologien produzieren die Zürcher preisgünstiger als die Mitbewerber. Um diesen Vorteil noch stärker ausspielen zu können, haben die beiden noch im Unternehmen tätigen Co-Gründer, Rico Chandra Giovanna Davatz, nun eine zweite Finanzierungsrunde über die Bühne gebracht. Die Rede ist von einem einstelligen Millionenbetrag. Das Geld stammt von btov Partners sowie von Leadinvestor Fredi Müller. «Die Forschungskompetenz sowie die langjährige Erfahrung des Unternehmens haben gezeigt, dass sie im Stande sind, mit ihren Systemen für eine sicherere Welt zu sorgen», sagt Müller.
