Aquatic Informatics Awards Ripple Effect Grant To The Eastern Pennsylvania Coalition For Abandoned Mine Reclamation

Aquatic Informatics is pleased to award the latest Ripple Effect grant to the Eastern Pennsylvania Coalition for Abandoned Mine Reclamation (EPCAMR). Ripple Effect is a software and service donation program that will enable EPCAMR to acquire, process, and model data using Aquarius software, and share insights with stakeholders for cleanup and restoration of waterways. Bobby Hughes, Executive Director of Eastern Pennsylvania Coalition for Abandoned Mine Reclamation said, “We are committed to watershed assessments, restoration, land reclamation, and education of our efforts to reclaim underserved mining-impacted coalfield communities throughout our region. Moving to Aquarius will modernize our data management into one central platform and provide us with enhanced analytics that will save time, graphically interpret the data more easily, use the data to justify the need for future funding and decision-making on the appropriate treatment system approach to treating abandoned mine drainage (AMD). It will also show improvements in water quality and macro-invertebrate and fish populations following restoration and habitat improvement projects, and ultimately allow our organization to build new community partnerships.” EPCAMR collects a myriad of data for multiple projects with multiple partners at any point in time. This includes data from temperature sensors, water quality samples, multi-parameter probes, biological, macro-invertebrate data, GPS mapping of mine discharges, abandoned mine land features including boreholes and mine tunnels, and more. Moving this disparate information from Excel and Tableau into a cloud-based management platform will help streamline processes and organize data into meaningful insights that will improve national outreach and educational programming. Ripple Effect is a software donation program for communities and organizations around the world that protect water. Each grant call has a theme associated so that a variety of organizations and communities can benefit from the different solutions that Aquatic Informatics has to offer in protecting life with timely water information.
