Tech employment in Houston grew 3.5 percent in 2022 versus 2021, compared with the national growth rate of 3.2 percent, whereas Dallas witnessed a 28.1% spike in tech jobs from 2017 to 2022 and Atlanta is continuing its tech hiring momentum. Apprenti and Dow's collaborative apprentice program is designed to be an innovative pathway for diverse talent to enter the organization, especially those who might not have had the opportunity to join the tech industry through traditional recruitment practices. The program encompasses various Information Systems roles, ensuring that apprentices acquire skills in high demand in the industry, including UX Designer, Software Analyst, Web Developer, Cybersecurity Analyst, Cloud Operations Specialist, and IT Business Analyst. After Apprenti's intensive virtual training program with apprentices dedicating 40 hours per week to their education, and working towards earning industry-relevant certificates and certifications, preparing them for real-world challenges, Dow provides 12 months of on-the-job training and support as part of its apprentice program. Pluralsight One grants $2.5 million to strategic nonprofit partners, expanding technology skills access globally
Salt Lake City—Pluralsight, the technology workforce development company, today announced that its social impact organization, Pluralsight One, is providing $2.5 million in immediate cash grants to new and existing nonprofit partners. These grants, in addition to 41,000 free Pluralsight Skills licenses the organization is donating, will help these strategic partners expand access to technology skills development for historically underrepresented populations in the communities they serve. “The speed of technological innovation places even greater urgency on the need for tech talent and we’re already facing significant skills shortages,” said Chris Oliver, executive sponsor for Pluralsight One. “Tapping into underrepresented communities as a source of talent will be critical to addressing these deficits. LGBT Tech — LGBT Tech develops programs and resources grounded in empirical research that support LGBTQ+ communities, working to educate organizations and policy makers on the unique needs of LGBTQ+ individuals face when it comes to tech. Rhiza Babuyile (RB)— A South Africa based organization, RB trains disadvantaged black youth through multidimensional programs that address healthcare, skills development, enterprise development and education. Tech-Moms — Tech-Moms focuses on helping women transition into the tech industry by providing technical training, career exploration, and a long-term community of support. Over the past 2 1/2 years, Tech-Moms has trained 300+ women while also creating a more diverse pipeline of talent for hard-to-fill roles in tech. Unlocked Labs — Unlocked Labs is making tech skills accessible to incarcerated individuals. They run programs to train justice-impacted people in tech skills, run a development shop employing returning citizens and build products to solve challenges within the justice system. Silicon Slopes—Pluralsight, the technology workforce development company, today announced that its social impact organization, Pluralsight One, has partnered with Apprenti, a national leader in registered tech apprenticeships, to address the opportunity gap for underrepresented populations by building technology skills that create pathways to professional employment. Together, the organizations will identify, train and place talent from non-traditional backgrounds into technology careers through apprenticeship programs supporting in-demand roles such as cloud and software development. There is a deepening tech skills shortage in the global workforce and the impact of not having enough technically skilled workers is being felt across every industry. In 2022 alone, more than 900,000 tech positions were left unfilled. This skills shortage creates an equity problem for the many people that have talent and motivation but lack opportunity, and causes challenges for companies that have open opportunities but lack candidates with the skills to fill them. Apprenti bridges tech talent and diversity gaps by adapting the time-tested model of apprenticeship to meet evolving workforce needs. Alongside Pluralsight One’s mission to unlock opportunity for the underrepresented through technology learning solutions, the two organizations are well-positioned to help participants flourish in their apprenticeships, move into full-time employment and build their careers. Cohort members begin their learning journeys with an 8-to-19 week hands-on, instructor-led academy through the Pluralsight Skills platform. Pluralsight’s curriculum, which meets the Department of Labor apprenticeship standards, provides existing and future employees with the highest quality technology learning experiences while building a skilled pipeline of diverse technical talent.
