To spread awareness on this special day, we have curated a list of top and upcoming green-tech startups that are solving environmental problems or using environmentally friendly technology. From energy sharing to transportation, these companies have gone green either to reduce environmental harm or build a more sustainable ecosystem. *P.S The companies and Startups listed are in no particular order. 1) GreenPower GreenPower is a leading renewable energy and electromechanical engineering company in Nigeria. The company provides high-quality Solar , Power Electronic ( UPS, Inverters, rectifiers) and MEP ( Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing) solutions to a wide range of sectors, including governments, schools, the banking industry, health care, hotels, real estate and the oil & gas sector. The company also covers all areas of engineering services like design, procurement, installation, operation, maintenance and consulting. 2) Lumos Global Lumos is an off-grid Solar Company that helps households get reliable electricity using its unique power solution. The company has a strategic partnership with  MTN, Nigeria’s leading telecom operator . The telco helps it provide and distribute solar equipment and services to Nigerians. Lumos has fitted more than 100,000 solar home systems around Nigeria and recently got a $75 million grant from the  federal government  to light up over a million households by 2025. 3) Max Max.ng is one of the first ride-hailing startups in the country to adopt green technology. The company launched MAX EV , its electric-powered bikes for mobility and logistics thereby accelerating zero-carbon transition and promoting a greener, resilient and inclusive future in the country. Max also has strategic partnerships with investors, energy partners and regulators to provide cheaper, cost-effective, clean-energy solutions for mobility. 4) BBOXX BBOXX is an off-grid solar company that provides homes in  off-grid locations with suitable solar energy solutions . Operating a pay-as-you-go (PAYG) model, the company uses home solar systems and a proprietary billing system. The company has installed 200,000 solar home systems remotely monitored via BBOXX Pulse, its mobile money billing system. So far, its installations have been able to reach more than one million people with a bulk of them located in Africa. 5) JET Motor Company JET Motor Company (JMC) is a Nigerian auto manufacturing company taking giant strides to improve the adoption of electric vehicles in Africa. The company is producing custom-made electric vehicles with optimum specifications suited to the Nigerian and African environment. The company has already raised $9 million from Canadian-based Africa Development Capital, Greatman Legend and several Asian investors to scale its research and development, as well as roll out its flagship electric vehicles. Its JET Motors’ EV, Africa’s first all-electric vehicle and the JET Mover, a durable and affordable minibus are some of the company’s earliest automobiles made for the African terrain. It is currently being used by big logistics and Mobility companies like GIG. Upcoming green Companies 6) Greenhill recycling Greenhill recycling is a recycling company that creates opportunities for people living in densely populated, low-income areas within Lagos state to create value from their daily-generated waste. Greenhill recovers recyclables such as plastic containers (bottles, buckets, bowls etc), aluminium cans, cartons, water sachets and office paper. In exchange for recyclable waste, the company offers redeemable GREENPOINTS to post-consumers. These Greenpoints can be converted to items of value such as groceries, bill payment, household items and cash. 7) Awa Bike Awa Bike is a Nigerian smart bike-sharing startup that helps ease mobility for students and people within campuses and enclosed locations like estates at very affordable rates using environmentally friendly bikes. The bike-sharing platform has launched on campuses including the Lagos State University (LASU) and Redeemer’s University. It recently sealed a partnership with the Oyo State Government which will see it provide bikes to be used by workers and visitors at the State Secretariat as part of a 3-month pilot. 8) Quadloop Quadloop is a social enterprise company that develops solar lanterns and solar home systems for homes. These solar facilities are designed and produced with a lower environmental impact. The company harvests certain materials from (Post Consumer & Post Industrial )E-waste LiPo, Lithium-ion batteries , also Plastic PET, PE, & PP waste. Quadloop was recently announced as one of the winning start-ups in the 2020 edition of the Nigeria Climate Innovation Centre’s (NCIC) incubation programme. It has also partnered with the University of Lagos and Hub One. 9) Homefort Energy Homefort Energy is a Clean Energy Startup that helps low-income households make the switch to cooking gas (LPG) affordable by enabling them to pre-pay for gas quantities. The startup developed a proprietary smart meter retrofitted to cylinders in order to serve poor households with cooking gas using the pay-as-you-go model. The company recently won the Kingdom Hack hackathon organized by the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) 10) Arnergy Solar Arnergy is a Nigerian solar energy company that provides solar-powered systems to homes and businesses. The company has a special focus on businesses in the hospitality, education, financial, agriculture and healthcare sectors. Over the last five years, the company has installed more than 2MW of electricity for over 2,000 clients . Yet, the opportunity remains huge. Arnergy was recently selected among the first African start-ups to receive investment from the Bill Gates and Jeff Bezos backed Breakthrough Energy Ventures.
