5 Top Hospital Algorithm Solutions To Use During The Coronavirus Pandemic

Apr 17, 2020

Ambient Clinical Analytics – Artificial Intelligence (AI) For Critical Care In the regions most affected by the COVID-19 outbreak, critical care departments are often underprepared and overburdened. AI algorithms solve this challenge by enabling risk stratification, predicting patient deterioration, reducing the information overload of hospital staff. As a result, emerging companies find ways to help hospitals reduce medical errors and improve the prognosis for critically ill patients. The US-based startup Ambient Clinical Analytics provides clinical decision support systems that use 1.200 rules and algorithms. AWARE is their solution for critical care that reduces information overload for health workers by using advanced analytics. This empowers doctors to make timely and actionable decisions about a patient’s condition. In addition, Ambient Clinical Analytics software has gained the FDA Class II Clearance as well as the CE Mark. inferVISION – Lung Scan Analysis During pandemic outbreaks like COVID-19, it is essential for overburdened hospitals to implement solutions that allow for quicker and automated diagnostics. One such solution is a software for analyzing lung scans to find visual indicators of the presence of SARS-CoV-2-associated pneumonia. Further, startups and emerging companies look to develop similar solutions that address the many challenges facing diagnostics efficiency. The US-based startup inferVISION is a provider of AI-powered medical imaging solutions. The company, in cooperation with the Wuhan Tongji Hospital, develops a coronavirus AI system that spots pneumonia associated with COVID-19 using lung computed tomography (CT) scans. InferVISION’s solution significantly speeds up the analysis of scans, thus equipping doctors with an important decision-making tool. Circadia Health – AI-Powered Respiratory Monitoring Using respiratory monitoring devices and artificial intelligence algorithms for monitoring infected patients helps reduce the workload for medical professionals. In addition, it also minimizes their risk of exposure to COVID-19. AI-powered software processes data from patient monitoring devices and allows for early detection of respiratory complications. As a result, hospital teams can take appropriate measures to save patients’ lives. Based in the UK, Circadia Health is a HealthTech startup providing HIPAA compliant respiratory monitoring systems – for both hospital and at-home use. The system includes a contactless sensor, clinical software, and AI algorithms that enable early diagnosis of respiratory complications, and therefore prevent patients from destabilizing. Curvo Labs – Hospital Supply Chain Management Hospitals face numerous challenges connected with their supply chains during a pandemic, such as the Coronavirus pandemic. One of the biggest challenges is the shortage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while another is price gouging and uncertain production conditions. Supply chain management software helps hospitals optimize their inventories by sourcing from reliable suppliers to save money and make sure their orders arrive on time as with medical equipment even a little delay can be life-threatening. The US-based company Curvo Labs  provides a cloud-based platform for hospital supply chain management . The company recently launched Lookup – a novel clinical product research tool and market pricing solution. Their offering aims to help hospitals during these difficult times and empower hospital supply chain managers to research product alternatives, prices, and suppliers in order to get essential resources at affordable prices. Qventus – Patient Flow Optimization The Coronavirus outbreak has already taken a massive toll on hospitals in many regions around the world. Patient flow management platforms optimize hospital resource allocation to estimate the number of hospitalizations. This includes identifying equipment shortages and patient flow patterns in order to suitably allocate available resources. The US-based company Qventus provides patient flow optimization and patient discharge management solutions. The solution allows hospitals to forecast new and cumulative COVID-19 hospitalizations along with the resources required. In addition, the solution identifies capacity constraints facing medical staff and PPE. The software also allows for real-time load-balancing of critical resources, intelligent discharge prioritization, and optimizing hospital beds. How To Flatten The Curve? This is an unprecedented situation for many of us across the world. The SARS outbreak in the early 2000s claimed 774 lives. That toll was enough to drive research & development in technology-driven healthcare solutions. The fact that several mobile health, e-health, remote health , and diagnostics startups and emerging companies are able to respond during a real epidemic is encouraging. With tens of thousands of deaths already, we expect to see numerous new companies offering technology-driven solutions to help doctors, nurses, other health workers, and the larger public.
