The Associated PressJuly 29, 2011, 11:09AM ET Saga Group to acquire Allied Healthcare for $175M By The Associated Press save to del.icio.us Allied Healthcare International Inc., which operates in the United Kingdom and Ireland, said on Friday that it has agreed to be acquired by Saga Group Ltd. for about $175 million in cash. The agreement price of $3.90 per Allied Healthcare share represents a 59 percent premium to Thursday's closing price of $2.45 per share. Shares of Allied Healthcare surged 56 percent in Friday morning trading. "After a robust examination of the strategic alternatives available to the company, our board unanimously concluded that this transaction is in the best interests of our company and shareholders," said Allied Healthcare CEO Sandy Young. While not subject to financing conditions, the deal must be approved by Allied's shareholders and regulators. The transaction is expected to be closed in the fourth quarter. Allied Healthcare provides in-home health and social care through a network of 120 community-based branches. Privately held Saga Group is a UK-based provider of products and services geared toward those aged 50 and older. Its offerings include insurance, savings, financial advice, care services, and Saga Magazine. Shares of Allied HealthCare rose $1.38 to $3.83 in morning trading. BW Extras
