View/Post Comments HOLYOKE – Police arrested a suspect Saturday who is accused of stabbing and robbing a store owner a year ago. Alfredo Aldeco, 27, of Holyoke, was arrested on a default warrant, a straight warrant and a fugitive warrant. He was also charged with possession of cocaine, said Police Lt. James Albert. Aldeco was wanted in connection with the Feb. 8, 2013 robbery of The Source of New York on High Street. The warrants charge him with assault with intent to murder and assault by means of a dangerous weapon, Albert said. During the robbery the owner of the clothing store was stabbed at least a dozen times when he was assaulted. The knife blade eventually broke off, preventing him from being injured worse. The attack, which happened just as the owner was locking up to leave, was captured on the store’s surveillance video. Police arrived during the attack and arrested Ivan Laguna , 42. In December, Laguna pleaded guilty of charges of armed robbery, assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon and intimidation of a witness. He is serving an eight- to 12-year state prison term. “These crimes were committed in a particularly brutal, terrifying manner,“ Hampden Superior Court Judge Edward J. McDonough said during the sentencing hearing. Following the robbery, Holyoke Police Det. Jennifer Sattler sought a warrant for Aldeco during the investigation, but he fled the area, Albert said. Aldeco was arrested this weekend after an officer pulled him over on Nick Cosmos Way. He is scheduled to be arraigned in Holyoke District Court Tuesday. Aldeco was held without the right to bail in the Holyoke Police Station over the weekend, Albert said.
