Brian D. Owen, General Partner Brian D. Owen has more than 25 years of senior operating experience in a wide range of technology companies, with a particular focus on enterprise software. Prior to joining Masthead Venture Partners, Mr. Owen was President and Chief Executive Officer of Decalog, NV, a venture-backed financial management software company that he successfully merged with SunGard (NYSE: SDS).Mr. Owen was also President and Chief Executive Officer of MapInfo, which he successfully positioned as the dominant worldwide provider of desktop mapping software. During his tenure, Mr. Owen led that Company's IPO. Mr. Owen also held senior management positions with Computer Associates, Oracle Corporation and Digital Equipment Corporation.
Mr. Owen holds an MBA degree from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, and a BS degree in Mathematics and Computer Science from Boston College. He has been a Director or advisor of iKnowledge, Nuron (sold to Intel) and Raptor Systems. He is also a Director of Centric Software and RuleStream Corporation, and an advisor to Packet Design, Tizor and TripConnect, all current Masthead portfolio companies.
Charles Crockett is a founding Partner of Ascend. Prior to the formation of Ascend, Mr. Crockett was a Director of The Beacon Group, a New York-based private investment and advisory firm that manages more than $2.0 billion in private equity capital. Mr. Crockett was the first Associate hired by The Beacon Group and spent six years evaluating, structuring and monitoring investments in a variety of industries. Prior to the formation of The Beacon Group, Mr. Crockett spent approximately three years at Goldman Sachs in the Structured Finance Group with experience in independent power financings, leveraged lease financings, partnership financings, project financings and private placements. Mr. Crockett currently serves as a director of AEP Networks Inc. Mr. Crockett is also presently a member of the Stanford Law School Board of Visitors and the State Bar of California, and is a director of the New York Software Industry Association (NYSIA) and the LEAD Program in Business. Mr. Crockett received a Juris Doctor degree from Stanford Law School and a Bachelor of Science from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
Daniel K. Flatley, General Partner Daniel K. Flatley has over 23 years of experience investing in early-stage information technology, media and telecommunications companies. Prior to joining Masthead, Mr. Flatley was a Managing Director at Credit Suisse First Boston and Donaldson, Lufkin and Jenrette where he was global head of a group investing in and financing satellite and telecommunications companies. Previously, he was a principal in a mid-market buyout and M&A advisory firm. He also practiced corporate/securities law, and clerked with a federal trial court judge.Mr. Flatley's corporate board and advisor service has included Masthead portfolio companies Genesis, Netilla Networks (merged with AEP Networks), Newsgator, Tacoda Systems, and TripConnect as well as Phillips, Nuron (sold to Intel), and Mail.com (predecessor to Easylink Services (NASDAQ: EASY).Mr. Flatley serves on the New Jersey Technology Council's Venture Advisory Board, the Advisory Council for the University of Notre Dame's College of Arts and Letters, and as a Trustee of the Oak Knoll School. He holds an AB from the University of Notre Dame, a JD from Georgetown University School of Law and a MBA from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.
Timothy P. Agnew, Principal Timothy P. Agnew monitors and supports Masthead's portfolio companies and
identifies and evaluates investment opportunities. He is also responsible
for Masthead's legal affairs and Small Business Investment Company
regulatory compliance.Prior to joining Masthead, Mr. Agnew was the Chief Executive Officer of the Finance Authority of Maine from 1988 to 1999. He is a Director on the Boards of CEI Community Ventures, Inc., the Great Schools Partnership, the Maine Trust for People with Disabilities, HealthInfoNet and the Senator George J. Mitchell Scholarship Research Institute.Mr. Agnew is a graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law and Vassar College, as well as the Venture Capital Institute.
