Erik Benson is a General Partner at Voyager Capital, where he’s been an early-stage venture capitalist since 1998. In addition to Shiftboard, Erik is a director on the boards of Chirpify, Lighter Capital, Lytics, SheerID, and Uplevel.
Erik was previously responsible for Voyager’s investments in Anova Data (acquired by Ribbon Communications), aQuantive (IPO, then acquired by Microsoft), Blue Box (acquired by IBM), Capital Stream (acquired by HCL Technologies), Covario (acquired by Dentsu Aegis), Elemental Technologies (acquired by Amazon), Kryptiq (acquired by Surescripts), MakeTV (acquired by LTN Global) and Skyward (acquired by Verizon).
Prior to joining Voyager, Erik was CEO of Mimix, a Seattle-based pioneer in motion capture software for the video game industry. He began his career in NYC with Chemical Banking Corporation (now JPMorgan Chase). Erik has an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BA from Pacific Lutheran University.

He built the company into one of the largest andmost successful subscription-based SaaS security services for consumers and small-to-medium sized businesses. Sampath orchestrateda successful IPO in December 1999 as well as the successful merger of McAfee.com with Network Associates (NYSE: NET), which hasnow become McAfee Inc. (NYSE: MFE), in October 2002. Prior to McAfee, Sampath was the Vice President of Product Marketing atNetscape Communications (NASDAQ:NSCP), and was Founder, President and CEO of Discussions Corporations, a leading developer ofemail-based groupware solutions. He also served in executive-level capacities for Central Point Software and as the ChiefArchitect of Intel's LAN Enhancement Operations. He started his professional career by co-founding Mecon (NASDAQ:MECN), ahealthcare software company, which was subsequently acquired by GE (NYSE:GE). Most recently, Srivats was the co-founder, president& CEO of Mercora, a social music company. Srivats is also an active investor and director. He currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Voltage Security. His past andcurrent investments and directorships include, Web Trends (NASDAQ:WEBT), Source Next (TSE:4344), Cadabra (Acquired by Goto.com),Covalent, Tripwire, Determina (Acquired by NASDAQ:VMW), and Real Image, an Indian digital movie company. Srivats holds a number of patents (9 issued and 3 pending) in areas of information security, the delivery ofsoftware-as-a-service, and contextual Internet advertising. He received his Bachelor of Science in Electronics andTelecommunications Engineering from Madras University, India. He has delivered keynote addresses at world-leading financial forumsand industry events such as COMDEX and Networld+Interop, and has appeared as a regular guest on major television networks such asCNN, CNBC, CNN|fn and Bloomberg. Srivats is currently working on IdeaToaster, a new and more deterministic approach to early stage venture capital -- an evolvingconcept derived from lessons learned from his 20+ years as an entrepreneur, operating executive and investor.
